Privacy Policy

NotebookLM Tools ("Extension," "we," "us," or "our") is a browser extension made by an independent developer that adds features to Google's NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook). This policy explains what the Extension stores on your device, what leaves your browser and where it goes, and how our website handles data. NotebookLM Tools is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

This policy is written in English. Translations are provided for convenience; if they differ, the English version prevails.

In Short

• We do not collect your notebooks, sources, chats, or browsing history. Everything the Extension stores lives in your browser.
• The only data the Extension ever sends to us is your license key, and only if you activate a Pro license.
• The Extension reads from and writes to NotebookLM on your behalf, using the session your browser already has with Google.
• We do not sell personal data, and the Extension shows no third-party ads or sponsored content.

Information Stored on Your Device

The Extension keeps the following data in your browser's extension storage. We never receive it.

• Your settings and preferences, such as theme, language-switcher position, which on-page tools are visible, and tab behavior after an import.
• Your organization data: tags, source folders, saved prompts and how often you use them, and which explainers you have dismissed.
• NotebookLM session data for each Google account you connect: the account email, a session token, and the account index, read from the NotebookLM page. The Extension uses them to call NotebookLM as you. They stay in the Extension's local storage and are removed when you disconnect the account or uninstall.
• Cached copies of your notebook list (titles, ids, your role, and source counts), your collections, Studio item counts, source freshness results, and a list of public or shared notebooks you have opened that are not in your library.
• Playlist and playback progress for Audio Overviews.
• If you activate a Pro license: your license key and the license record our server returns, which includes the status, the expiry date, and the name and email associated with the purchase.
• Local usage counters that only decide when to show upgrade reminders and milestones.

Backups you export contain your tags, prompts, folders, and settings, never your session data or license key. Uninstalling the Extension removes all of this data.

Data That Leaves Your Browser

To Google, on your behalf

When you use the Extension, it reads from and writes to your NotebookLM account: adding sources (web pages, links, text you select, open tabs, RSS articles, YouTube playlists), renaming, copying, and merging sources, generating Studio items, managing collections and labels, and changing your output language. These requests go directly from your browser to Google, using your existing NotebookLM session, exactly as if you had done them in NotebookLM yourself.

Previews and downloads of Audio Overviews, videos, and generated files are fetched from Google, sometimes with your Google cookies so that protected files can load. Your use of NotebookLM is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Google Privacy Policy

To websites you choose

RSS feeds, sitemaps, YouTube playlist pages, and pages you ask the Extension to extract links from are fetched directly by your browser from those sites, which see your visit like any other. Nothing passes through our servers.

To us: license checks only

If you activate a Pro license, the Extension sends your license key and a random activation identifier to our license server to activate the license, to verify it when you open the Extension's pages, and to deactivate it when you remove it from a device. Our server forwards these requests to Polar, keeps a cache of the result for up to 24 hours, and keeps standard technical logs for a few days.

The Extension never sends us your Google account details, notebooks, sources, prompts, page content, or usage statistics. If you use the free version, the Extension makes no requests to our servers at all.

The Extension contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or remotely loaded code.

How We Use Information

Data is used only to make the Extension work:

• Providing the features you use, such as organizing notebooks, importing sources, and playing Audio Overviews.
• Remembering your settings between sessions.
• Calling NotebookLM as the Google account you are signed in with.
• Verifying a Pro license and counting how many devices it is active on.
• Deciding when to show upgrade reminders, based on counters kept on your device.

Permissions

The Extension asks for the following browser permissions:

• Storage and unlimited storage: to keep the data described above in your browser.
• Tabs: to read the address, title, and icon of the current tab when you add it as a source, and of the tabs in the current window only when you use the import-open-tabs feature.
• Scripting: to run a small script in the current tab only when you ask the Extension to extract links or detect feeds on that page.
• Context menus and side panel: to add the right-click actions and open the side panel.
• Access to notebook.google.com and notebooklm.google.com: where the Extension's on-page features run.
• Access to all websites: only to fetch the URLs you enter (feeds, playlists, sitemaps) and to run the on-demand scripts above. The Extension does not run on other websites on its own.

Upgrade Reminders and Links to Our Website

The free version shows reminders to buy a license: a banner in the Extension, an occasional dialog after you use a feature, and a small NLMTools.com badge on NotebookLM pages. These may mention NotebookLM Tools plans or our other products. Pro users can hide the badge.

Reminders are triggered by counters kept on your device. Links from the Extension to our website carry a ref parameter that only tells us which button was clicked. The Extension shows no third-party advertising or sponsored content.

Third-Party Services

Google provides NotebookLM. The Extension only works with the NotebookLM account you are signed in with in your browser; we do not use Google sign-in and never receive your Google credentials.

Polar handles checkout, license keys, and the customer portal. If you buy a license, Polar processes your payment and holds your customer record under its own privacy policy. We receive an order notification with the product, amount, and invoice number, and we email your license key to the address you used at checkout. Polar Privacy Policy

UserJot hosts our feedback board, and an uninstall survey runs on Google Forms; visiting either is your choice, and anything you submit is stored by those services. Cloudflare hosts our license server.

Our Website

The Extension opens nlmtools.com after you install or uninstall it, and links to it from reminders. Our website uses Google Analytics for aggregated traffic statistics and LogSnag to count events such as clicks on checkout buttons. Neither receives data from inside the Extension.

After a purchase, the thank-you page retrieves your order details and license key from Polar using the checkout id in the page address, so it can show them to you. The website does not store them.

Data Security and Retention

Data on your device stays there until you disconnect an account, clear it in the Extension's settings, or uninstall. Transfers between the Extension, Google, and our license server use HTTPS.

On our side, the license cache expires within 24 hours, technical logs are deleted after a few days, and a device activation is removed as soon as you deactivate it. Polar keeps license and purchase records under its own privacy policy. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

You have full control over your data:

• Disconnect a Google account in the Extension to remove its session data.
• Deactivate a device from the Extension's Profile page or the customer portal to remove its activation.
• Use Backup & Restore to export your tags, prompts, folders, and settings.
• Uninstall the Extension to remove all locally stored data.
• Email us to ask what license data we hold about you or to have it deleted. We do not sell personal data and make no automated decisions about you.

Children's Privacy

NotebookLM Tools is not directed at children under 13. The Extension does not collect personal information from anyone, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Extension changes. Updates are shown by the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
